Northern Westchester hiking looks nothing like the rivertown greenway further south. Croton-on-Hudson anchors Croton Gorge State Park and the Old Croton Aqueduct. Ossining offers Teatown Lake Reservation and Aqueduct access. Peekskill sits at the Bear Mountain Bridge doorway, a short drive from Bear Mountain State Park and the full Hudson Highlands trail network. For adults 21 and over, this is prime post-hike cannabis territory, when the consumption happens correctly.

State Land Is State Land

New York state law prohibits cannabis consumption on state-owned land and in public spaces. That rule covers Croton Gorge State Park, Hudson Highlands State Park, Bear Mountain State Park, and the Old Croton Aqueduct trail corridor. No vape pens at the dam overlook, no edibles consumed trailside. The northern Westchester trail system is uniformly state-managed in the sections worth hiking.

The Post-Hike Pattern

The rhythm that works for northern Westchester hikers looks like this. Drive from Croton-on-Hudson, Ossining, or Peekskill to the trailhead. Hike sober. Return to a private residence and then consider a low-dose edible or a pre-roll if that is part of the evening routine.

Some Peekskill residents who have been at it a while describe the post-hike gummy as the reward end of a longer arc, 2.5 to 5 milligrams taken with dinner, a shower, and maybe a movie. The dose timing matters more than potency when your legs are already tired.

What Northern Westchester Retailers Tend to Stock

Licensed retailers serving Croton-on-Hudson, Ossining, and Peekskill carry the categories that suit this rhythm: low-dose edibles, capsules designed for evening use, and lower-THC flower strains. Peekskill's licensed market has expanded in recent seasons in the last eighteen months. Always verify licensed status via the OCM QR code at cannabis.ny.gov before buying.
